ERIN WASSON TO DESIGN CLOTHING LINE

Model turned jewelery designer branches out...
Erin Wasson has just signed a three-year contract to design a line for surf-and skate-inspired label RVCA, and NYC fashion-mecca Opening Ceremony has already bought the spring 2009 collection. Wasson, who until recently was Alexander Wang’s style-muse, is famous for her ad campaigns for the likes of Balenciaga and H&M, and has also previously designed a jewelry line, Low Luv (featured in Wang’s fall 2008 runway show).
Wasson describes her first collection as “tomboy chic.”
Said to mirror her personal style, it will feature Pima cotton tank tops, denim cutoffs, a wool miniskirt, a silk button-down emblazoned with tiny thunderbolts, and a jaunty blazer with a zipper running up the back. When talking about her line, Wasson told WWD that she thinks the problem with surf and skate companies is that the girls’ stuff tends to have a lot of pinks and blues and that it’s just assumed that that’s what girls want to wear. She adds that she has often been relegated to the men’s section in the skate shops. Whether her line will truly offer something innovative in the way of fashionable skater-wear remains to be seen.In any case, Wasson will not be giving-up her modeling career anytime soon saying, “Oh, no, honey. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you.”
