Could Stella and Vivienne be designing for the Queen's guards?

Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood could be set to re-design the Queen's guards uniforms.

The tall black bearskin hats sported by the Queen's Guards are something of a London landmark but have always caused controversy amongst animal lovers as one bear has to be killed for each hat made. Animal rights campaigners from PETA have long been pushing for an alternative to be used - and now Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood could be stepping in to help.
This week PETA are set to meet with officials from the Ministry of Defence to put forward

proposals for alternative materials and designs that could be used. Long-time vegetarian Stella McCartney and British fashion stalwart Vivienne Westwood are just two of the designers who PETA have on standby to design something new and improved if the M.O.D. give them the go-ahead. We can't wait to see what they come up with and hope a Stella-designed faux fur alternative can be found for the Queen's guards.
