Alexander Wang to design shoes and a diffusion collection
U.S. designer Alexander Wang has been steadily growing a loyal band of followers since launching his debut collection four years ago from his apartment in New York. Since the this rising star has moved studios twice - each time getting larger - received two CFDA awards and is now set to add shoes and a diffusion line to his label.
He will launch both for spring/summer 09, and reveals to Womenswear Daily just how different the two new collections are.
T by Alexander Wang is a range of t-shirts and t-shirt dresses that he's designed to 'speak to his aesthetic', which translates as white, grey marl, heather and lavender soft cotton tees with stretched necklines, oversized arm holes and a lived in look. 'It's like sleeping in a t-shirt and then wearing it the next day', he says.
For the shoes however he has taken a much edgier approach. Each of the five style is a platform hybrid including a leather shoe boot and fringed high heels. He's even used fetish hardware to accessories the new shoes - which he says have been designed to completely contrast with his new collection.
We'll be seeing that in September in New York. Until then he's left us with a taste of what is to come, 'lots of colour, dresses and a Miami Vice vibe.'
