Vogue Italia - Elegance As Form
In an ode to Grace Jones Iconic 80’s style, Steven Meisel has shot a series of images that highlight some of the cornerstones of this time; power shoulders, bold geometric lines, chunky jewels, sky high stiletto’s, body conscious silhouettes and monochromatic black and white colors.
Meisel has used shadows to portray Dali-esque shapes, contrasting with spot lighting to reference the films, music videos and vibe of the late 80’s to advantage. Grace Jones epitomised the strong, powerful yet ambiguous mood of the time with women challenging their archetypal roles and more than meeting their male counterparts in the world of business. This was the introduction of the “power suit” and shoulder pads after all!
It’s a compelling shoot with strong direction that further enforces what a seasoned professional Meisel is and how influential Vogue Italia as a publication is on the world stage
